Medical Oncology

Medical Oncology

A female nurses reviews a male patient's arm in the chemotherapy unit.The medical oncology team is part of the Integrated Cancer Service and provides comprehensive and holistic cancer care for patients with diverse cancers.

The team’s expert and experienced cancer specialists compassionately guide and care for patients affected by cancer throughout:

  • diagnosis
  • management
  • treatment
  • survivorship (after cancer treatment has completed).

The team treat patients with all types of cancers, with the following exceptions:

  • head and neck cancers
  • mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lung)
  • bone and soft tissue cancers
  • gynaecology cancers (ovarian, cervical, uterine)
  • primary central nervous system tumours (brain).

Treatments are delivered in our Chemotherapy Day Unit and include:

  • chemotherapy (external site)
  • immunotherapy (external site)
  • a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy
  • targeted treatments (external site)
  • pain and symptom control.

To ensure the best management plan for your cancer journey, the team delivers a high standard of cancer care and participates in multidisciplinary cancer team meetings with:

radiation oncology

  • palliative care
  • pharmacy
  • allied health

In an emergency

Please go to your nearest emergency department (ED). If you are having chemotherapy or immunotherapy, present the ED staff with your purple card.
