Transition to Nursing and Midwifery Practice Programs

Transition to Nursing and Midwifery Practice Programs

The Rockingham Peel Group Transition to Nursing and Midwifery Practice Program supports you to transition from a student to a newly qualified nurse or midwife, developing confidence as you consolidate your clinical skills.

Rockingham Peel Group is an evolving and expanding healthcare provider within the South Metropolitan Health Service. Through access to preceptorship and flexible education and learning opportunities, our dynamic nursing team will assist you to further develop your clinical knowledge and competence in hospital-based care.

About the program

To give you a strong career foundation, the program offers experience in general nursing and midwifery as well as in clinical specialties such as emergency care, medical assessment unit, theatres, mental health and paediatrics.

Participating enrolled and registered nurses and midwives are provided:

  • part-time work (4 days/week)
  • 12-month fixed term contract
  • 2 intakes per year
  • 2 clinical rotations of 6 months each (enrolled and registered nurses only)
  • a Transition to Practice Program certificate on completion
  • comprehensive orientation
  • graduate specific study days
  • graduate study days/eLearning in association with SMHS Graduate Midwifery Program (midwives only)
  • unit specific learning plans to facilitate clinical and educational experience
  • preceptor support
  • access to other professional development opportunities
  • supernumerary time
  • SMHS Mental Health Transition to Practice Program.

About us

Rockingham Peel Group provides safe, high quality:

    • allied health services including Rehabilitation in the Home, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers, CoNeCT and an Aged Care Assessment Team

    • day procedure and endoscopy
    • emergency department
    • intensive care
    • mental health
    • multi-stay surgical
    • obstetrics and neonate
    • operating theatres
    • outpatient clinics
    • paediatrics.
  • inpatient aged care and allied health services at Murray District Hospital
  • community and mental health services across Peel, Rockingham and Kwinana.

Recruitment for all transition to practice programs is centrally coordinated by Chief Nurse and Midwifery Office via the online recruitment system GradConnect (external site).
