Find out about the facilities available for our hospital patients and visitors

Facilities

A number of facilities are available for patients and visitors at Rockingham General and Murray District hospitals to help make their stay or visit more comfortable.

Entertainment

Rockingham General Hospital

A bedside radio service is available in most wards. Most wards also have television monitors above each bed. The television service is available on a daily or weekly rental basis. This service is run by an external company and is not managed by Rockingham Peel Group. Hire can be arranged through the Hospital Television Rentals representative who visits the wards regularly during the day, from Elanora’s Café or the vending machine opposite Elanora’s Café.

The Friends of Rockingham General Hospital run a trolley service three days a week to wards distributing donated reading material (books and magazines) to patients.

Electronic equipment

Portable DVD players, game consoles, laptops, iPods etc are permitted. However, head phones must be worn in the interest of other patients.

All mains-powered equipment, including chargers, must be tested by a hospital electrician before being used. For more information please ask your ward clerk.

Murray District Hospital

Patients have access to both a television and radio service. Hospital staff can arrange connection. The television service is available on a daily or weekly rental basis. This service is run by an external company and is not managed by Rockingham Peel Group.

Food and beverage

Rockingham General Hospital

Elanora’s Café, run and staffed solely by volunteers from the Rockingham General Hospital Auxiliary, is located in the main atrium on the ground floor. The café sells a delicious range of cold and hot meals and snacks as well as hot and cold drinks.

Operating hours are:

  • 8.30am – 2.30pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9.00am – 2.00pm Saturday
  • 9.00am –1.00pm on public holidays.

Please note the café is closed Sunday.

Vending machines are located in the outpatient clinic waiting area, emergency department and opposite Elanora’s Café. A variety of hot and cold drinks and snacks are available.

A trolley service from Elanora’s Café offering a selection of confectionery, emergency toiletries and magazines/daily newspaper also visits wards from Monday to Friday.

Murray District Hospital

A trolley service offering a selection of confectionery visits patients on the ward. Visitors have access to tea and coffee making facilities and a cold drink vending machine is also available on site.

Gift shop

Rockingham General Hospital

Elanora’s Gift Shop, also run and staffed by volunteers from the Rockingham General Hospital Auxiliary, is located in the main atrium on the ground floor. It offers a beautiful range of gifts including flowers as well as newspapers and cards.

Operating hours are:

  • 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9.00am – 4.00pm Saturday
  • 9.00am – 1.00pm Sunday and public holidays* (*excludes Good Friday, ANZAC Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day when the gift shop is closed).

Murray District Hospital

Patients are able to place orders for newspapers. Toiletries may be purchased from the volunteer trolley service that visits the ward.

Language and cultural services

If English is not your preferred language, staff can arrange an interpreter at no cost to you. Interpreters are trained professionals bound by their Code of Ethics and provide a confidential service.

Interpreters are available to attend on site or via telephone. If you require an interpreter, please advise the ward clerk or nursing staff.

If you are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment, the National Relay Service will assist you to communicate with us:

  • TTY or modem users, telephone 133 677
  • Voice-only (speak and listen) users, telephone 1300 555 727.

Cultural services

We have a range of services designed to meet specific cultural needs such as language, dietary and religious requirements. If you have needs related to your culture, please mention this to the staff caring for you.

Pastoral care

Rockingham General Hospital

Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy offers a listening ear, confidentiality and compassion.

Our hospital chaplain is readily available and will visit upon request. Ministers from other denominations and other faith leaders can be contacted as required. Chaplaincy services may be contacted at all hours –  please contact main reception or nursing staff to request a visit.

An Interfaith Chapel/Quiet Reflection room is located at the main entrance next to reception. This space provides an intimate space for quiet reflection, prayer or worship. It is always open and patients and visitors are welcome at any time.

Murray District Hospital

Patients at Murray District Hospital are supported by and have access to a hospital chaplain and a sister who will visit upon request. Please speak to a member of staff to arrange a visit.

Telephones and ATMs

Rockingham General Hospital

Bedside telephones are available so patients can receive incoming telephone calls at no cost.

Mobile phones may be used in the ward area, however please respect other patients and restrict the use of mobile phones to reasonable hours. If available, please switch your mobile phone to a silent or vibration mode, especially at night and during rest periods.

Public telephones are located in the main entrance as well as in the Emergency Department.

An automated teller machine (ATM) that accepts all cards is located in the foyer.

Murray District Hospital

Bedside telephones are available so patients can receive incoming telephone calls at no cost.

Phone cards are required to make outgoing calls and these can be purchased from reception.
