Paediatric Unit

Paediatric Unit

Our paediatric unit was purpose built to meet the needs of our young patients and their families.

Paediatric staff provide specialist care and treatment for children and adolescents from birth up to 16 years of age.

Our services cover a variety of medical and surgical conditions in an 8-bed ward. The unit is fully secure, with restricted access.

The unit includes six single rooms and is bright, warm and child-friendly, having been thoughtfully decorated and equipped to be welcoming and safe for children who require treatment and care.

Patients are referred from paediatricians, general practitioners and the hospital's emergency department or are local patients who still require hospitalisation but not within a tertiary facility.

Parents are welcome and encourage to stay with their child while in hospital and can offer overnight accommodation to one parent, in the form of a fold-out bed.

Radio Lollipop volunteers visit regularly to provide much-needed fun and distraction, while children also have access to a range of toys and activities in our playroom.

Parents of children undergoing surgery are further supported by the Friends of Rockingham General Hospital, who run a parent support program.

Trauma teddies (soft knitted teddy bears) from members of our community are given as gifts to our paediatric patients as we all children receiving treatment in other areas of the hospital.

Other services we offer include long-term support to children with complex medical conditions requiring regular inpatient treatment.
