Creative expression reflected in contemporary art exhibition

Art pieces created by Peel Community Mental Health clients to reflect resilience during the period of COVID-19 isolation will form part of the Reflections COVID-19 art exhibition in Mandurah.

Art Therapist Michele Sharpe and Occupational Therapy Assistant Terry McCourt at Peel Community Mental Health created the art project to foster connections with other community members and help clients reflect on their thoughts and feelings during COVID-19.

“This exhibition has not only given our clients an opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings around COVID in a healthy, creative way, but also to reflect and acknowledge that we are all connected by our common humanity, our vulnerabilities and our strengths,” Terry said.

“The participants created works that portrayed themes of dealing with change, uncertain futures, isolation, hope, growth and resilience.”

Unifying the works is the use of two colours – pink to represent listening to our hearts and emotions and green to symbolise hope, growth and resilience.

The group submission of 12 artworks will be exhibited alongside works from many local artists in the Peel region.

The Reflections COVID-19 art exhibition will be on display at the Contemporary Art Space Mandurah (CASM) from 29 August to 27 September.
